GenX GenY GenZ: CIMB Credit Card Promotions 2012

First the bad news, the best CIMB credit card promotion in 2011 and 2010 is no longer being offered by CIMB, and everyone of you would know what I mean, it's the CIMB 0% Balance Transfer Plan. And the second best CIMB Credit Card promotion, 0% 10 Months Installment Plan for Hospital, Insurance and Education Bills is also no longer available. So, is there any point in us keeping the CIMB Credit Cards? Well, let's check out the benefits of CIMB Credit Cards for this year.

CIMB have been slow to update their credit card promotions back in January 2012, and with all the festive seasons behind us, the good news is that CIMB people are back to work and have been updating their website almost weekly.

The FREE cup of coffee at Dome with either CIMB Premier Credit Cards, i.e. World MasterCard or Visa Infinite, has been extended to end of 2012 :) Last year, I could order a single scone and I'll get a FREE cup of coffee while waiting for the girls to shop at the malls.

Once again this year, we get discount for fragrances, cosmetics, liquor and chocolates at Eraman Duty Free at KLIA, KK, Kuching, LCCT and Penang airports. This promotion runs until 31 December 2012 where we can get 15% discount with the CIMB Direct Access World MasterCard and Visa Infinite. For Platinum credit cards, 10% discount is being offered. There is no discount for cigarettes.

This is great for those who wants to buy Louis XIII - the King of Cognacs by the House of Remy Martin and save at least RM1,000 since the 700ML with gold plated decoration cost RM6,880 (click here to read more about it). And if you like me, can only afford cheaper brandy like the Eiffel Tower XO, still can save about RM30 and get like half a carton of free fags :)

For those who loves to read, you are entitled to RM5 MPH cash voucher for every RM50 spent. This promo also runs until end of the year.

And one again I am entitled to 15% discount with my CIMB Credit Cards at my favorite Thai Restaurants Amarin Mid Valley, Flying Chillies Gardens and Just Thai 1U. Other Thai restaurants from the same group are Bangkok Jam Bukit Bintang, Absolute Thai at Ikano and Johor Premium Outlets and Celadon Pavillion KL.

And if you are a frequent traveler and stay or dine at Hilton group of hotels, the Visa Infinite offers Hilton HHonors Gold Membership for up to 1 year.

The CIMB Credit Cards also entitle cardholders up to 15% discount at Tai Thong Restaurants and also at Room Eighteen and San Francisco Steak House. I do frequent Tai Thong restaurants and with the Tai Thong Platinum Member Card, I can save up to 20% discount. I'll pay the bills with my Maybankard 2 AMEX to earn 5X Treats Points (if you have AMEX's AMEX Platinum, you'll earn 10X Membership Reward points). However, during certain period, Tai Thong Member cards are not entitled for discount, e.g. Chinese New Year, and this is where my CIMB World MasterCard can save me 15% :)

CIMB Smart Pay (click here to read the Terms and Conditions) - This year CIMB installment plans are not 0% interest free unlike last year where they offer it for Hospital, Education and Insurance bills. You have the option to convert your transactions to 10, 20 or 30 months installment plans BUT you be charged UPFRONT interest of 4%, 6% and 7% respectively. For those of you who are not familiar with upfront interest charges, don't be fooled by the 4% interest rate for the 10 months plan as the effective interest is much much higher. KFC - 5% discount until 31 December 2011. This is great but many people reported that most of the time the card terminal KFC outlets are not working. Did happen to me many times where the counter staff will tell me offline; BUT, I will insist I want to use my CIMB Direct Access credit card to benefit from CIMB promotion and then somehow the transaction can go thru. Once had to wait like 20 minutes for the KFC people to sort it out and get the card terminal functioning.

CIMB Premier Credit Card - World MasterCard and Visa Infinite Dining Offers. 50% off for 2 diners at Grand Millennium Hotel KL, Le Meridien Hotel KL, Sheraton Imperial Hotel KL, Westin Hotel KL. Hark Rock Cafe Penang, Pullman Putrajaya, Hyatt Regency Sabah and Miri Marriot Resort and Spa.

And for the ladies who go for hair treatment at A Cut Above to look beautiful, you can enjoy up to 15% discount with the CIMB World MasterCard, Visa Infinite and Visa Signature. For Platinum cardholders, you are eligible for 10% discount. And for the guys paying their lover's hair treatment bill, they'll still get a heart attack when you see your beautiful lover's hair treatment bill even with 15% or 10% discount, hahaha. Too bad for me that CIMB Credit Cards no longer offer discount at Alexis. As for CIMB Balance Transfer plan, as of date, they have yet to announce any. I am sure CIMB will offer Balance Transfer Plan for 2012; but I doubt we will get 0% interest rate for this year.
