Free Entry to KLIA & LCCT Plaza Premium Lounge with Credit Cards

An article by GenX published at www.generationsxyz.blogspot.com

[UPDATE July 2013 - click here to check out my latest article titled The Best Credit Card for FREE Entries to Airport Lounges Worldwide 2014 which include LCCT and KLIA Plaza Premium Lounge]

[UPDATE July 2014 - click here to read my article FREE Entries to KLIA 2 Plaza Premium Lounge with My Credit Cards]

Free food and beverages at Kuala Lumpur International Airport and LCCT with credit cards.

For international flights we are advised to be at the airport earlier to check in and this sometimes results in us having wait a couple of hours prior to boarding the plane and the seats inside the departure hall are not very comfortable.

Airport lounges provide us an alternative place to relax or have a drink or meal in a more comfortable environment while waiting. Previously, access to airport lounges usually are free when you purchase business or first class air tickets. With certain credit cards, you no longer need to fly first class or business class to enter airport lounges and even worldwide if you have Priority Pass  Membership card.

Nowadays, more and more people are travelling overseas as budget airlines make it more affordable. Our credit cards come with many benefits, usually requiring us to spend money with it to get the benefits, but there is one benefit that is truly "free" without you actually needing to do a transaction i.e. access to airport lounges. For our locally issued platinum credit cards, many give FREE access to Plaza Premium Lounge located at the Mezzanine Floor at the satellite terminal.

The free access to airport lounges and KLIA Plaza Premium Lounge with our credit cards is limited to the Principal Card Holder only. You may bring in guests but you will have to pay for it.

Here's what you get at KLIA Plaza Premium Lounge:

1) Free Meals
2) Free Cold Soft Drinks
3) Free Hot Coffee or Tea
4)  Free Draft Beer
5) Free Massage (chair)
6) Free internet access.
7) Free shower amenities.

Basically, the free entries to Airport Lounges can be broken down to 3 categories:

Worldwide Airport Lounges

Some credit cards issue Priority Pass Membership card that allows you complimentary access to airport lounges worldwide. Below is a doctored photo of my Priority Pass Membership cards that I previously posted at My Credit Cards blog.

And Malaysia Credit Cards that issue complimentary Priority Pass Membership Cards are:
With the Priority Pass Card, the holder can enter KLIA and LCCT Plaza Premium Lounges too but it will use up your free entry quota. However, Citibank PremierMiles and HLB Visa Infinite does have separate quota for KLIA and LCCT Plaza Premium Lounge, I will touch on this later on.

You may refer to www.prioritypass.com to check the airport lounges worldwide.

This card like its counterpart, the RHB Platinum Credit Cards, offers 4 free entries to either KLIA, LCCT and or Senai Plaza Premium Lounge.

Brief description on the credit cards that grants FREE access to airport Lounges.

The Alliance Bank Platinum credit card is pretty good as you can enter unlimited times to KLIA Plaza Premium Lounges for free and the card comes with free annual fee waiver if you swipe 12 times or spend RM5,000 per year. This Platinum card also comes with free annual fee for Alliance Bank Privilege Banking customers. Alliance Platinum credit cards also give cash back capped at about RM68 for spending where the cash back is based on tier limited up to  RM5,000/month in addition to 2X reward points for overseas spending.

CIMB Visa Signature and Visa Infinite allows you to enter KLIA Plaza Premium Lounge twice a year and the card is free for life. However to get the annual pass renewed, you got to spend RM100K with your CIMB Visa Signature Credit Card.

My wife has this card which gives her unlimited access per year to KLIA and or LCCT Plaza Premium Lounge and 2 annual Free passes to airport Lounges Worldwide which include LCCT Plaza Premium Lounge. The first year annual fee of RM600 is waived subjected to terms and conditions. This card reward you with Air Miles instead of reward points or cash back. The card is good if you are a frequent flyer. This card looks way nicer than Citibank Platinum Credit Card. Both  the Citibank Platinum Credit Card and PremierMiles offer overseas Medical Insurance up to RM50,000. There are no auto annual fee waiver for both of these Citibank cards but that does not mean Citibank will not waive it. Click here to read my article comparing between Citibank Platinum versus PremierMiles Visa Signature where both cards grant you access to KLIA PPL.

Hong Leong Bank Visa Signature comes with Priority Pass card that gives you only 3 free access per year to airport lounges worldwide and unlimited entries to KLIA and LCCT until 30th June 2012. In order to waive the annual fee, the card holder has to spend RM30,000 and above with the card. For the first year, the annual fee is free, and it does give extra 1% cash back for overseas transaction but that is if and only if you spend more than RM10,000 and is capped at RM500 per year. Click here to read my article Hong Leong Bank Visa Signature - The Best Visa Signature Credit Card in Malaysia? [Update - As of 2 quarter of 2012, HLB Visa Signature no longer comes with the Priority Pass Membership Card].

Maybank Visa Infinite which earns you 5X Treats Points for every RM1 spent overseas and it comes with the Priority Pass Membership that grants you 5 Free access to airport lounges worldwide. You have to spend RM50K per year with the card to get the RM800 annual fee waived. Click here to read my review on the Maybank Visa Infinite and its benefits.

As for RHB Platinum Credit Cards, you get 4 times a year in total free access to KLIA Plaza Premium Lounge or at LCCT and Senai. The card does have auto annual fee waiver feature if you spend RM36,000 with it but you can always request for the waiver if you spend less than this said amount. It is free with Premier Banking but you must apply using RHB Premier Banking application form.

Standard Chartered Bank Platinum credit card allows you unlimited access to KLIA Plaza Premium Lounge and there is no auto annual fee waiver  feature.

The Standard Chartered Bank Visa Infinite issued in Malaysia offers unlimited entry to worldwide airports lounges with Priority Pass card.To qualify for the Standard Chartered Bank Visa Infinite, you need to be a Priority Banking customer with them. Click the link to read my review and article on  Standard Chartered Visa Infinite - The Ultimate Airport Lounge Credit Card.

UOB Preferred Platinum Credit Card that comes with Privilege Banking (you now need AUM of RM500K to qualify) NO LONGER grants you free access to KLIA, LCCT and Senai Plaza Premium Lounge. They now have a new Visa Infinite for their Privilege Banking Customers.

If you are into Premier Cards, click here to read my article UOB Privilege Banking Visa Infinite and RetirementThe new UOB Visa Infinite competes with Maybank and StanChart Visa Infinite where these Premier Credit Cards offer 5X reward points and Priority Pass Membership Card.

In July 2012, Alliance Bank launched their Visa Infinite which earns the cardholder 2X points for local transactions and 5X point for overseas. And Alliance Bank's credit cards points are evergreen like Maybank Treats Points. And best of all, the Alliance Bank Visa Infinite also issues the Priority Pass Membership Card which grants UNLIMITED access to airport lounge worldwide :) The annual fee income requirement is RM150K, which is good as more people can now enjoy unlimited access to airport lounges worldwide. The card annual fee is waived for the first year and subsequent years with RM30K spending. The Alliance Visa Infinite is also issued to Alliance Bank Privilege Banking customers.

I would like to thank Mr. Lim for highlighting to me the new Alliance Bank Visa Infinite, see comment below :)

American Express Platinum Credit Card, American Express Charge Card and American Express KRIS Flyer - all these 3 AMEX cards grant you free unlimied access to KLIA and LCCT Plaza Premium Lounge. The American Express Kris Flyer credit card annual fee is the lowest at RM250 per year only. Not sure about the AMEX Kris Flyer card, but the AMEX Platinum Charge Card do grant you free access to airport lounges worldwide, check with AMEX if you are a frequent flyer. The AMEX Platinum Charge Card annual fee is RM2380 per year.

AMBank Visa Infinite credit cards also give you free access to airport lounges but it comes with conditions like you have to purchase tickets with it and charge a certain sum overseas.

As of July 2012, I have 8 credit cards that allows me to enter KLIA or LCCT Plaza Premium Lounge, therefore, my entire family can enter KLIA or LCCT Plaza Premium Lounge when we go for holidays :)

Do check out if your card gives you free access to KLIA Plaza Premium Lounge the next time you go to KLIA.

As for me personally, airport lounges not of importance as the first thing I do upon arrival at airports is ask - "where is the smoking room" :)

Bon Voyage.

  1. Hi there.noticed you did not mention anything about OCBC credit cards. THey mentioned they offer free access to KLIA Plaza Premium Lounge, do you know if this includes LCCT?thanks!

  2. Hi Ann, thanks your for reading. Just as a reminder, please sign up as "follower" to comment. The comment above will be deleted in 24 hours time, unless you sign up, can't have double standard for your case.

As you mentioned for OCBC, they only mentioned KLIA PPL, so I guess you can assume LCCT not included. However for the Titanium card you need to purchase your air ticket costing above RM3K with it AND you need to call OCBC to make reservation. For Plat no mention of this condition. However, OCBC Plat only earns the card holder 0.5% cash back and not much benefits, so most would not go for this card.

  3. hi GenX, so great to have ur updated PPL info. im going klia PPL coming apr. just like to check with you as you mentioned, they really allow family members to use our card to enter PPL? cos i llb going with my father in law whom has just exceeded the max age of 65 to apply for cards (just past his birthday few days ago >.< ) if really allow i plan to apply one more card so that he able to go PPL with us. thanks :)

  4. ally, as I mentioned in my article on Changi T1 Skyview Lounge, KLIA Plaza Premium Lounge allow us to use another credit card to grant entry for our guess. But the Skyview Lounge would not allow me to use another Priority Pass card.

For those above 65, they still can apply for cards if they have income. My Dad over 70 years old recently got a HLB card because the bank staff ask for his "help". Or sign up for Priority Banking, 100% get a credit card.

But let me point out to you something, it will cost you RM50 GST for another card and the food in KLIA PPL is not worth RM50. So, worst come to worst, let your father in law enter for FREE with your card and you go use the RM50 and have better food elsewhere :)

And thank you for reading my articles.

    1. ally, I really don't know, it is up to HLB management to decide. When I first got my EON VS in late 2010, it did not offer unlimited access to KLIA or LCCT PPL until sometime mid last year. It was nice of HLB to extend the promo till June 2012 but I don't think it will be forever considering the fact that HLB is very "calculating".

  8. Hi GenX, has there been a change in the terms and conditions for the PPL access using Citibank PremierMiles and Platinum cards? It appears that they have removed the 12 times limit from their website and reworded the naration. Apparently, the cards now grant unlimited access to local PPL, albeit with the 2-hour per visit limit remaining?

    1. Bro, your Alliance Plat and PPMC should get you two free entries. For UOB Plat, they have some conditions you need to spend certain amount to qualify for FREE entry to KLIA PPL, go read it up. Not sure for UOB VI by itself since you'll be using the Priority Pass Card for one entry.

Worst come to worst, let you wife and one kidin and you go jalan jalan with the other kid :)
